In so many ways, the city of Las Vegas acts like a chameleon sometimes. It's not always easy to see Las Vegas as a good destination for families. Especially families with younger children. And it's no wonder! The marketing for this town seems to changes with the seasons. Sometimes Las Vegas is an adult destination and sometimes it presents itself as a family friendly Las Vegas. No matter what the marketing happens to be right now for Las Vegas, there are always stores, shops, and restaurants that cater to every whim. For visiting families, there are tours and adventures for every age and budget.
Las Vegas is a place where nearly everything is open 24 hours every day. This is great for families with older kids who are adventurous and want to go out and experience the town at night. There are great places where fun can be had for teens and young adults too. Las Vegas is an old western town with western and pioneer history. Las Vegas has been a watering hole for many cowboys and wandering pioneers in past times. Even today you can find much of the western flavor in areas like Red Rock Canyon and the close by Bonnie Springs Pioneer Town. Families can enjoy all of the hiking opportunities at Red Rock and the cowboy activities available at Bonnie Springs in one easy afternoon. All of this is only a few miles from all the excitement of the Strip.
For any visitors who are able and willing to venture from the Strip, they are going to discover a myriad of different family friendly Las Vegas things to do. Only a few moments to the east of town there are some great adventures waiting at Lake Mead and Hoover Dam. Both of these destinations are great choices and easy for the whole family to enjoy. Still farther down the road a few miles there is the new Grand Canyon overlook, built on the edge of the Western Grand Canyon inside of the local Native American Reservation.
For any families that have some additional time to spare, Las Vegas is a wonderful starting place for adventures to the many southwest destinations like the Grand Canyon, Bryce Canyon, Zion National Park. These great family outings can be reached in a few hours by car, making them an easy overnight trip from Las Vegas. There is convenient highway access to all of them. Even for families heading all the way into Arizona, the opening of the Bounder Dam Bypass has made it easier than ever from Las Vegas. This is a perfect solutions for any visitors going to the Grand Canyon Overlook and for those who are heading all the way to Flagstaff, Jerome, Sedona and Phoenix.
Even for families who plan to stay in town there are many family activities and adventures right inside Las Vegas. For example, The Springs Preserve is not far from the Strip itself. The Springs Preserve is an example of the area before the city of Las Vegas was even here at all. Close by is the downtown area, where you will find Fremont Street, which offers many activities that are suitable for the slightly older kids. And while you are near downtown, you can also visit the Las Vegas Gold and Silver shop, home of Chumly and Hoss and the infamous Pawn Stars television show.
These is just a small example of the wonderful family friendly Las Vegas adventures to be had. For an even more extensive list (and up to date as well) be sure to not to miss the great website Las Vegas Vacation Village. They work hard to maintain a good listing of some of the more popular Las Vegas adventures for are suitable for all ages.
